History
Story Behind the Org
Save the Children was founded in 1919 in London by
Eglantyne Jebb to provide food and aid to children
suffering after World War I. It pioneered the idea that
children have fundamental rights, leading to the first
Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1924. Over the
decades, the organization expanded globally, focusing on
health care, education, protection, and emergency
relief. Today, Save the Children operates in more than
100 countries, continuing its mission to ensure every
child has the opportunity to survive, learn, and be
protected.

Save the Children has a major global impact, reaching
over 100 million children each year across more than 100
countries. Its health programs have helped reduce global
child mortality by around 60% since 1990 through
vaccinations, nutrition support, and maternal care.
Education initiatives have supported more than 20
million children annually, especially in conflict zones,
by building schools and training teachers. Its advocacy
work has influenced international policies like the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child, driving lasting
change for children worldwide.
