History
Story Behind the Org
The Malala Fund was founded in 2013 by Nobel laureate
Malala Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin, after Malala
survived a Taliban attack for speaking out on girls’
education in Pakistan. Her story sparked a global
movement, and the organization was created to turn that
momentum into lasting change.

Impact
Effects
The Malala Fund has reached 26 million students across
the world by investing $66.4 million in 2024–25 alone.
It has supported 123 education champions and 65 fellows,
advanced major legal reforms like Nigeria’s Child Rights
Act and Brazil’s constitutional amendment for girls’
education, and helped 13 million students continue
learning during crises such as COVID-19 and the
Afghanistan school bans. Focused on ensuring 12 years of
free, safe, quality education for every girl, the Fund
is scaling local leadership and policy change to address
the 122 million girls still out of school worldwide.
